CPR

WHAT IS CPR?

CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It's a lifesaving procedure that is performed to help keep a person alive until more advance help arrive. When a person’s heart stops beating, CPR can be done to save that person's life.

WHY SHOULD CPR BE DONE?

CPR is done so blood can continue to flow in the body. Oxygen is carried in the blood and as the heart pumps it carries oxygen throughout the body to major organs, like the brain. If the brain doesn’t receive oxygenated blood it can cause damage to the brain and that can cause the person to die. That’s why CPR is very important! Even doing only compressions until a trained medical team arrives can make a difference between life or death.

WHO CAN PERFORM CPR?

Just about anyone can perform CPR. An adult, co-worker, young adult, teacher, mother, father, teenager, and even school-aged children. As along as they’re trained to perform CPR the correct way, anyone can save a life using CPR. The person doesn’t have to work in the medical field to learn how to do CPR.

AED

WHAT IS AN AED?

An AED stands for automated external defibrillator. It’s used when someone is suffering from an cardiac arrest. It’s a medical device that can analyze a heart rhythm and deliver an electrical shock, if the person needs it. It helps the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES TO PERFORM CPR?

 Heart Attacks

 Choking

 Drowning

 Severe allergic reactions

 Drug overdose

 Suffocation
